Klunk Says Numbers Show Republican Efforts to Control State Spending and Resist Tax Increases are Paying Off for PA

House Republicans held the line on state spending over multiple budget cycles, and now those smart fiscal policies are paying off. The House Appropriations Committee says revenue collections for the month of April were more than $4.4 billion, which is $465 million more than the Department of Revenue’s official estimate. For the 2018-19 fiscal year, general fund collections total $29.16 billion year-to-date, which is $828.5 million above the official revenue estimate. Rep. Kate Klunk (R-York) said numbers are proof positive that Republican lawmaker’s efforts to control spending and stand up for taxpayers against the governor’s repeated calls for tax increases are now paying off for the state.

 Click To Watch

Rep. Klunk Offers Legislation Protecting Unborn Children with Down Syndrome from Abortion

Lawmakers and Down syndrome advocates rallied in Harrisburg on Wednesday in support of legislation that would protect unborn children from being aborted because they have been diagnosed with Down syndrome. Under current Pennsylvania law, an abortion can be performed prior to 24 weeks gestational age for any reason if a doctor deems it is necessary, except if the woman’s sole reason is to select the sex of the child. This legislation would expand the exception to prohibit aborting the child solely due to a prenatal diagnosis that the unborn baby has Down syndrome. House Bill 321 is similar to legislation approved in a previous session of the House. Rep. Kate Klunk (R-York) is a prime sponsor of the legislation to protect unborn Down syndrome babies.

 Click To Watch

Rep. Klunk Reacts to Governor’s Budget Announcement

At a press conference held at the State Capitol on Wednesday, Gov. Tom Wolf announced that he intends to allow a budget approved by the General Assembly last week to become law without his signature. The move signals the end of a nine-month fiscal impasse in Pennsylvania. The 30 billion dollar spending plan allows money to flow to schools, corrections, and agriculture programs that had been held hostage during negotiations.

Rep. Klunk Comments on Launch of PennSAVE Initiative to Find Savings in Government

The House Majority Policy Committee today launched PennSAVE, a Republican-led effort to find ways to save taxpayer dollars by cutting government waste and inefficiencies. The PennSAVE acronym stands for: savings, accountability, value and efficiency. The special task force will be run by a subcommittee of the House Majority Policy Committee and will research several potential cost-saving measures across state government, including state agency and program consolidations; unaddressed audit findings; reform of government procurement policies and “corporate welfare” programs, as well as overall waste, fraud and abuse in the system. Comments are now available from Rep. Kate Klunk (R-York) on this new cost saving initiative.

 Click To Watch
