The state budget crisis continues in Harrisburg this week with Governor Rendell ordering a government shutdown and furlough of thousands of state workers. Rep. Mike Peifer of Pike and Wayne counties said that House Republicans are on the House floor waiting for the administration and House Democrats to come to the table and finish the job of negotiating a budget settlement. Peifer added that House Republicans voted twice to support a state budget plan that includes a modest increase in spending but Governor Rendell continues to delay a budget deal with demands for support of non-budget related legislation. Rep. Peifer Supports Boating Under the Influence Bill - 5/24/2007
Legislation that will make boating on Pennsylvania lakes and waterways safer was approved this week by the state House. Rep. Mike Peifer of Pike, Wayne and Monroe Counties cosponsored the bill that will toughen state laws regarding boating and alcohol use. The bill would puts the Boating Under the Influence Law in line with the vehicle code, adjusting the blood alcohol content level from .10 to .08. House Bill 778 would also update the Fish and Boat Code regarding chemical testing for boating under the influence cases and increase penalties, especially for repeat offenders.
