Rep. Rapp Comments on Illegal Immigration Legislation - 6/9/2010
A pair of bills that would protect construction jobs in Pennsylvania by cracking down on contractors who hire undocumented, illegal immigrants was approved with broad bi-partisan support by the state House on Tuesday. The legislation would penalize contractors who hire illegal immigrants, bar them from bidding on state construction contracts and also require the use of a federal E-Verify system to confirm the validity of workers Social Security numbers. Rep. Kathy Rapp (R-Warren, Forest & McKean) said she feels the legislation will help protect Pennsylvania workers and taxpayers from the burden of supporting illegal immigrants. Rep. Rapp Comments on Rally Against Increased Taxes - 6/8/2010
Taxpayers and lawmakers joined together for the annual Pennsylvania State Capitol Taxpayers Protest Tuesday in Harrisburg. Speaking at the event were representatives of more than 10 taxpayer groups who spoke in opposition to the budget plan put forth by the Rendell Administration to increase state spending by more than $1 billion and boost taxes to cover skyrocketing state deficits. Transportation funding will be the topic of a special session of the state legislature, with Governor Rendell addressing lawmakers on Tuesday to lay out some of the options Pennsylvania faces to fill the $2 billion revenue hole created by the failure of the I-80 tolling plan. Rep. Rapp Says New Democrat Sex-Ed Bill Limits Local and Parental Input - 4/28/2010
Legislation that would require Pennsylvania school districts to provide comprehensive sex education was narrowly approved this week by the House Education Committee in Harrisburg. The Democrat sponsored bill would mandate that public schools not be allowed to teach an abstinence-only curriculum, but would continue to give parents the option to excuse their children from instruction. Rep. Kathy Rapp (R-Warren, Forest & McKean), a member of the House Education Committee, said she could not support the bill that diminishes local and parental control over the materials used in Pennsylvania schools... Hundreds of citizens joined legislators and national gun-rights advocates for the fifth annual Right to Keep and Bear Arms Rally Tuesday on the steps of the State Capitol in Harrisburg. Lawmakers also took this opportunity to join in reaffirming their support for the 2nd amendment and highlight legislation to would further protect gun rights in Pennsylvania. Rep.
